Is JWS expressing guilt for eating something that was once alive? Witnessing the physical killing of a future meal is, indeed, something entirely different from having the butchers and fish mongers do all the dirty work when you're not looking.
I think I'd get queasy if I saw a cow or a pig slaughtered. But this story is about fish. And I have no problem killing fish. Sushi just tastes too good.
